If you have used Concordium’s Android Wallet before September 26th 2022, that means you are familiar with what we now call the Concordium Legacy Wallet.
The Concordium Legacy Wallet was our first iteration of wallets for Android but now a new generation of the Concordium Wallet for Android is live, and this article explains why you should migrate to the new version!
What is the difference between the Concordium Legacy Wallet and the New Concordium Wallet for Android?
The table below shows the differences between Concordium Legacy Wallet and the new Concordium Wallet for Android.
What are the benefits of upgrading to the new Concordium Wallet for Android vs staying with the Concordium Legacy Wallet?
The new Concordium Wallet for Android uses a secret recovery phrase to generate your private keys, simplifying the process to restore an account if you require to migrate to a new phone or if you lose access to your phone or app.
The new version also supports easy portability of accounts and your digital ID between the mobile wallet and the Concordium Web Wallet.
The new iteration will soon have the option to connect to Dapps and use our upcoming Web3 ID.
If you are a user of the Concordium Legacy Wallet, here is how you can migrate to the new Concordium Wallet for Android
As the new wallet introduces a secret recovery phrase, the way that keys are protected differs between the old and new wallets. Therefore you should do the following:
Download the Concordium Wallet for Android and set it up so you have a secret recovery phrase, a verified identity, and at least one account. Learn how here.
Open the Concordium Legacy Wallet and send your funds from it to your new account(s) in the Concordium Wallet for Android. See how here.
If you are baking or delegating CCD you may have to stop this and wait for the cool down period to end before you can send the CCD to the new wallet. Stop baking or stop delegation on the old wallet.Once you are sure that all of your funds have been transferred and you have no incoming transfers, you can delete the Concordium Legacy Wallet from your phone.
If you would like to resume baking or delegating, just create new baker keys in the new wallet or activate delegation.
Can I continue to use the Concordium Legacy Wallet?
The Concordium Wallet for Android and the Concordium Legacy Wallet are separate apps, so you can continue to use both simultaneously if you like.
We strongly recommend you upgrade to the new version of the Concordium Wallet for Android as it supports easy synchronisation of accounts and ID with the Concordium Web Wallet, which is already available on Chrome, Edge, Opera and Brave browsers. Besides that, all new cool features will be added only to this version of the Android wallet. This will also apply to the iOS version of the Concordium Wallet, which is being updated shortly as well.
If you want to keep using the Legacy version of the wallet, please notice that you can no longer create new accounts or ID objects in it. Also make sure that you continue to make manual backups of your private keys.
